Why hire an editor?
Independent authors are famously self-reliant, ingenious, and adaptable. Choosing alternatives to traditional publishing means creating your own path – but when it comes to fine-tuning your manuscript, you don’t have to tackle the details alone!
ALLi‘s survey of indie writers shows that 90% of 100k authors use professional editors. What kind of editing works best for your project?
Structural Edits
This level of editing examines plot, characters, narrative drive and setting, to ensure a solid base for the entire work. The feedback involves an initial report and suggestions on the first draft, including full feedback on up to two more drafts and monthly check-ins by email.
Copyediting
A late draft manuscript is the perfect time for copyediting – using a style guide, the entire piece is checked for consistency of spelling and details, while also focusing at a sentence level on the smooth flow of syntax and strong organisation of information.
Proofreading
The formatted manuscript is ready to be inspected word by word, checking punctuation, spelling, grammar, and typography.
